In Japan, Shockwave was released under the name Laserwave.

Shockwave was among the many characters rendered by Takara as part of their series of 1.5" keshigomu figurines and was availble in the Destron Hero Collection 22 multi-pack. He featured a number sculpted into his back that was the sum total of his Tech Specs, for use in the various games that could be played with the figurines.

A soft rubber figurine—known in Japan as a keshigomu— of Shockwave was released as part of the second wave of Kabaya's Transformers Milk Caramel candy toy range. He came packaged with chocolate-covered caramel candies, and was available in red, blue, and yellow.

"Clarity of thought before rashness of action."
Cold, brutal, scientific approach to war. Seeks to overthrow Megatron as leader of Decepticons because he believes logic says he would be better. As laser gun, can emit lethal beams of energy from anywhere on the electomagnetic spectrum: gamma rays, X-rays, visible light, infrared rays, radio waves, etc.. Flies in laser gun or robot Mode. High fuel use, but can be powered by nuclear sources. Often confounded by initiave, emotional thinking.

The Destron Collection 22 Laserwave Decoy was later brought over to Hasbro markets as part of the Decoy promotion, largely identical to the Japanese release except for the fact that the number on his back was replaced with a simple "checklist" number, 51.

An awesome warrior. Plots the destruction of the Autobots with the same cold, computer-like efficiency as in planning the overthrow of his Decepticon leader, Megatron. Believes that only one as logical as himself can lead the Decepticons to victory. Left arm shoots a wide range of electromagnetic armaments from explosive gamma rays to super-hot infrared particle beams. Paired with Fistfight, a loathsome terror droid who enjoys dissecting late Model cars when he's not in his long range, laser-sighted, lightning rifle Mode.
